SIIB Leadership Series 2008
       

 

“Leadership is not about knowing the future. It is about enabling it.”

SIIB Leadership Series is the flagship event of SIIB. This conclave held every year since 2002, cherishes and celebrates the spirit of leadership. This event has come to become an exceptional platform where some of the finest and most successful personalities of India Inc. have shared their experiences with budding managers of SIIB and delegates of prominent B-Schools.

Some of the eminent speakers who have graced the event in earlier years were Mr. Homi Khusrokhan, MD, Tata Tea ( 2003), Mr. Adi Godrej, Chairman, The Godrej Group ( 2004) Mr. Habil Khorakiwala, Chairman, Wockhardt Ltd ( 2004), Mr. Jagdish Capoor, Chairman, HDFC   Bank (2004) , Mr Richard Rushton, Managing Director, Sab Miller India ( 2005) Mr. A.K. Purwar, Chairman, SBI (2005), Mr M.N. Singh ( Ex-IPS) , Chairman, Invent ARC Pvt. Ltd.  This year the SIIB Leadership Lecture Series will be held on September 21, 2008.

SIIB Leadership Series 2007

The theme for this year was “ Idea to Action ”. The  event  Leadership Series 2007 was organised on October 7th, 2007. The Chief Guest for the SIIB Leadership Series 2007 was Mr. Jayant Patil, the Honourable Finance & Planning Minister of Maharashtra. Besides him the eminent personalities present for the event were Mr. Ujjwal Nikam, Public Prosecutor, Maharashtra; Mr. Naushad Forbes, Director Forbes Group and Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, Founder of Symbiosis International University. The event was inaugurated by these eminent personalities along with the esteemed presence of Dr.(Mrs.) Rajni Gupte, Director SIIB.

The event commenced with the inaugral speech by Dr. S.B. Mujumdar, who motivated students of SIIB to achieve great heights so that the world market recognizes the products of Symbiosis. He pushed students further with the slogan "Chak De Symbiosis".

Mr. Patil stressed on the wide spectrum of economic growth in India. He enlightened students of SIIB on  how India started with the opening of her economy to the present status of great mergers by IndianCompanies. He also emphasized that under severe competition from other countries, we need a double digit economic growth for which India needs developed infrastructure, road, railways and ports
   

Dr. Naushad Forbes touched the area of innovation and how ideas are converted into actions, the force behind which is purpose, focus and will. The present purpose is the continuous improvements in the India. Taking it further, he said a purpose cannot be achieved without 100% focus, clear vision and delivering on that vision. An organization need right people with a potential to succeed. Taking the upshot, he said that the states of India need to play individual role in developing the Indian Economy. 
   
Mr. Nikam delivered his speech on the positive aspects of life. He mentioned that the ideas are borne in mind and body starts implementing it. He added that optimism and persistent efforts keep the life rolling and help in overcoming the problems of life. Finally, he suggested to the students of SIIB not to be overconfident and over- ambitious but they should optimistic with the practicability of ideas and feasibility of success.
   
Mr. Doongaji delivered lecture on the topic "To have Nothing Is To Have Everything". In his whole lecture, he touched every aspect without which a person cannot be a leader in real sense. He started with "Ego" that is one of the hurdles in one's way of success. He explained Ego finds expression in hedonistic pursuits & possessions; a desire for power, rank & sphere of command.
   
Mr. Narayan, advised the students of SIIB to be critical and not to be cynical in business decisions. He stated that there is a need of transformational leadership in the present corporate scenario which can aim for success, demonstrate leadership and courage with goals in mind and trust in associates so as to shape the future with a joint effort.
   

Mr. Ramesh commenced his interaction with students of SIIB  covering engineering , technology and innovation. He suggested change in all four M's i.e. man, machine, material and methods along with focused approach towards three C's i.e. customer, company and competition. He stressed that this century belongs to materials which should be light, cost-effective and smart

   
Mr.Dheer projected the concept of idea generation which does not happen in vacuum and requires vision, value and purpose. For this, a leader-manager needs to be highly capable, competent and effective with a will to work in group and ultimately supposed to execute the same in a successful manner.
   
He stated that lots of ideas generate daily but only few ideas convert into ideas. Ideas need investment of thinking process, team effort, discussion and analysis in every aspect. The person implementing the ideas need to be focused and accept responsibilities. He guided the future managers of SIIB that to be successful in the Corporate world, one needs o find the weakness in its competitors, research and improve your product and launch the product in an innovative manner to ensnare the market and customer.
