SIIB
Students make their mark in Deutschland!
Knowledge
knows no boundaries……..
The
adage proved again on 15th of June 2008 when students
of 2007-09 batch arrived in
Bremen
. As SIIB is devoted towards its mission of creating global
leaders it was an effort to make students acquainted with the
business environment in other country.
The students were provided with an
opportunity to interact with global business leaders and
brilliant teachers. There was a workshop by Mrs. Kuenzer about
intercultural communication; the skill that entails a true sense
of being a student of ‘international’ business.
During
the course there were lectures on ‘Cases in International
Marketing Management’, ‘European Integration and European
Regional Policy in a Global World’, we studied ‘EU
Policies’ and ‘European Airports Privatisation’ at the
Berlin School of Economics, ‘Supply Chain Management’,
‘Maritime Trade and Transport Logistics, ‘Privatisation,
Regulation and Competition in the Transport Industry’,
‘Privatisation of the German Railroad’, ‘Global Management
– Concepts and Controversies’, ‘International Marketing
– General Aspects and the Specifics of Pricing for Digital
Products’, ‘Planning and Evaluation of Projects’,
‘Urbanisation’ and ‘Benchmarking in Logistics’.
These lectures gave students a European perspective on various
political, financial & regulatory issues.
Along
with these lectures, there were industry tours to various
companies and locations like to the Daimler Plant in
Bremen
, the factory where numerous assembly lines
were set up. The most exhilarating part is that all these
assembly lines have virtually no human beings working on them,
they are all robots!
The
students also visited the Bremen Cotton Exchange, one of the
oldest cotton exchanges in the world. The students were given an
insight on this by a senior polished gentleman, Mr.Neumann, the
various types of cotton that landed up at their exchange for
trade or arbitration and the sheer variety of cotton. There is
cotton from
India
,
China
,
Pakistan
,
Iran
,
Iraq
, South America, North America,
Africa
and some European countries.
The
next trip was to
Wolfsburg
at the Autostadt (Auto city). The set up is owned by Volkswagen.
The Autostadt is a theme park with car simulations, research
simulations, and a bio-fuel lab.
The
visits to city of
Papenburg
which was the heart of the ‘Meyer Werft’,
Europe
’s largest shipyard for cruise vessels
and the Becks Brewery visit helped students to learn more
about varied industries. There was also a company visit to
Wespig Textile and Logistic Service Provider where denims were
sourced and manufactured. The students learnt about how their
sourcing and supply chain worked. The final industry visit was
to the
Hamburg
airport. The systematic and coordinated operations of the
airport were quite learning
All
these lectures and industry visits were coordinated by
Professor Dr.Niemeier, course supervisor and summer school
tutors Anika and Florian.
Besides
the educational aspect, the trip gave a phenomenal intercultural
exposure to the students through the visits to the city of
Bremen
, weekend visits to
Paris
and Amsterdem and interacting with the people there and in the
university.
Truly, SIIB empowers to shrink the world and
expand the horizons!
