ENECON 2023

The Energy and Environment Department at SIIB successfully hosted its annual flagship event, ENECON’23, on December 16, 2023. The event aimed to facilitate discussions surrounding the crucial theme of the “Emergence of AI-Powered Sustainability.” The event commenced with an impactful introductory video, setting the stage for discussions on the innovative amalgamation of AI and sustainability practices. Following this, Dr. Asmita Chitnis, the Director of SIIB, felicitated the guests, Ms. Anu Chaudhary (Partner and Global Head ESG, Uniqus Consultech Inc.), Mr. Najid Narmawala (Director – Climate Change and Sustainability, EY), Mr. Neelesh Mantri (Digital Product Management Sustainability, bp), and Mr. Gaurav Mukherjee (Global Sustainability Practice Lead, Bristlecone). Post-felicitation, the 8th volume of the annual newsletter of the Department of Energy and Environment, “EQUILIBRIA,” was inaugurated.

Dr. Prakash Rao, Deputy Director and Head of the Energy and Environment Department, extended a warm welcome to the guests. His remarks underscored the importance of events like ENECON’23 in fostering a collaborative environment for the exchange of ideas and knowledge in the realm of energy, environment, and sustainability. Moving forward, the moderator of the event, Ms. Anu Chaudhary, guided the discussions, ensuring a seamless flow of ideas and insights between the panellists, namely Mr. Najid Narmawala, Mr. Neelesh Mantri, and Mr. Gaurav Mukherjee. The focal point of the panel discussion was on how AI can contribute to achieving sustainability. The engaging discussion covered various aspects, including the role of AI in optimizing resource management, addressing data privacy concerns, enhancing energy efficiency, managing big data, and tackling climate challenges. The panellists shared their expertise, fostering a deeper understanding of the potential impact of AI on sustainability efforts.

Succeeding the panel discussions, the floor was opened to an interactive question and answer session, allowing the audience to actively participate. Attendees seized the opportunity to pose insightful questions to the panellists, sparking dynamic conversations on the nuances surrounding the event theme. In the concluding remarks, Mr. Dipen Paul, faculty of Energy and Environment, expressed gratitude in his vote of thanks to the speakers, the moderator, and all the participants of ENECON’24 for making the event successful.
