The 30th Foundation Day of SIIB was celebrated with great pomp on July 11, 2022 upon glorious completion of its thirty years of rendering quality higher education in the country. The ceremony was graciously honored with the presence and performances of eminent music artistes, such as Tabla Maestro Pandit Arvind Kumar Azad ji (also a gold medalist) and Shri Dilip Kale ji (renowned Santoor instrumentalist) who have enthralled audiences through their memorable performances of Indian Classical music throughout their career.
Dr. Asmita Chitnis, Director-SIIB welcomed the honorable guests for the event, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp and felicitation of guests. Shri Dilip Kale ji introduced to the audience about the genesis of ‘Santoor’ as an Indian musical string instrument and also various ‘Raags’ of the Indian music, including the ‘Raag Ahir Bhairav’, which occupies a unique place among ‘morning raagas’ and a pleasing blend of Raag Bhairav in Poorvang and Raag Kafi in Uttarang. Both the artistes paid their tributes to the legendary musician Late Shri Shiv Kumar Sharma ji, who was an exponent of Santoor and was credited with converting the Santoor (mainly played in Kashmir) into a powerful instrument for the Indian classical music. Further, Pandit Azad ji and Shri Kale ji rendered their mesmerizing performances where the duo kept the entire audience glued to their seats playing the santoor and tabla in ceremonial harmony including ‘Jugalbandis’. Next, Shri Anirudhdha Deshpande, a prominent musician, alongwith his team of artistes, such as Shri Abhijeet Yadav on the guitar, Shri Deepak Bhanuse on the flute, Shri Kartik Bhalerao playing the Cajon, and Shri Atharva Kagalkar on the handpan drum enthralled the audience through their fusion pieces of Indian classical music with Hindi Bollywood numbers.
The ceremony concluded with Dr. Dharmesh Mishra, delivering the vote of thanks and sharing highlights of the entire ceremony. He captivated the audience with his marvellous ‘shayaris’ and recital of short pieces of Hindi songs relevant to the occasion.
