Synopsis:

On 6th July 2021, the new batch of 2021-23 attended a Guest lecture by Mr. Hrishikesh Malu on the topic “Trends in BSFI sector”.Mr. Malu emphasized the fact that the customer was the base in any aspect and area of the BFSI sector. He elaborated on the subjects of omnichannel banking, AI, blockchain, and many such technologies that are taking firm roots in the financial services sector.

Mr. Malu mentioned that digitization and digitalization are two different components of the digital movement. ‘Digitizing’ a sector means moving from manual operations to automated ones, whereas the word ‘digitalization’ refers to a new way of thinking altogether. Mr. Malu reiterated the integration of technology in the finance sector and its various advantages. The importance of cybersecurity in the sector was also touched upon.

Mr. Malu recognized this wave of technology into finance to be directly linked with the growing usage of smartphones in India. With 750 million subscribers, India is one of the major players in the world’s digital economy. With the integration of analytics, new concepts of banking such as neo-banks, digital-only banks, blockchain, and RPA are emerging in the banking sector.

Mr. Hrishikesh Malu summarized the session by mentioning technology in BFSI as a norm, and not an option. Traditional banking systems need to implement agile technology and better banks to be competitive in the technological world.
