Panellist’s Name and Designation: Mr. Pranay Prasoon, Senior Vice President, Head of Data Products Management at Acquity Knowledge Partners

On September 23, 2023, Mr. Pranay Prasoon, an esteemed alumnus of SIIB and currently serving as Director and Head of Data Products Management at Acquity Knowledge Partners, conducted an enlightening guest lecture on “AI, ML, and Chat GPT” for students from the 2023-25 batch of MBA programs in International Business, Agri-Business, and Energy & Environment. The primary objective of the session was to explore the potential applications, challenges, and concerns related to Generative AI.

Mr. Prasoon began the session by discussing the challenges faced by the music industry, including the shift from physical formats (cassettes/CDs) to digital, legacy content, piracy, and the surge in online music portals. He demonstrated the role of data in revitalizing a declining music company by presenting a case study of Caravan. The analysis of 120,000 songs’ usage and popularity over eight years led to the addition of features like mood categorization, video details, and actor information. The company also curated a top 5000 songs list in various languages, emphasizing how data can save a struggling company.

Mr. Prasoon discussed the significance of Big Data, highlighting its volume, variety, and velocity. He explained how enormous amounts of data in various formats and real-time updates are crucial in different sectors, such as government, healthcare, weather forecasting, and more. He delved into AI, ML, and deep learning, explaining their abilities and applications, and mentioned that deep learning enables machines to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence.

Furthermore, he provided insights into various applications of Big Data and AI, including automated watering systems, predictive analytics in fast food, smart aircraft maintenance in airlines, and more. The session explored Generative AI, which uses deep learning models to produce content based on user input. The potential applications of Generative AI, such as content generation, drug discovery, and code generation, were discussed. Prompts for platforms like ChatGPT were also covered.

The session provided valuable insights into the world of Generative AI and its impact on various sectors. Mr. Pranay Prasoon’s expertise and real-world examples made the complex topic accessible to the students, leaving them with a deeper understanding of the possibilities and challenges associated with AI transformation. In conclusion, he highlighted concerns related to Generative AI, including its misuse for malicious purposes, challenges in writing prompts, and the limitations of AI models, such as hallucinations and bias. The session ended with a discussion on the impact of AI adoption on the workforce and the need for continuous learning and adaptation in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
